--------------------------------- J.S.Bach: St. Matthew Passion, Los Angeles; April 4, 2003 – dir M.Suzuki --------------------------------- – “Of the soloists, two were Japanese, three European. The smallest, and the loudest, was a tenor named Makoto Sakurada, and he was phenomenal.“ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ LA WEEKLY / A Lot of Night Music. Exalted, Exultant, Exhausted by Alan Rich --------------------------------- J.S.Bach: St. Matthew Passion, New York; April 8, 2003 – dir M.Suzuki --------------------------------- -“Japanese tenor Makoto Sakurada had just one aria (O Schmerz!) but displayed a clear natural high voice with good diction.” ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ la Scena Musicale, by Philip Anson / April 8, 2003 --------------------------------- J.S.Bach: Magnificat Brescia, 4 Novembre 2003 dir Giancarlo de Lorenzo --------------------------------- -“...al tenore Makoto Sakurada per la solare resa. In più, la bellezza di timbri come quelli dei due flauti dolci contralti, vere perle in questo applauditissimo «Magnificat». ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Bresciaoggi, Mercoledì 5 Novembre 2003 --------------------------------- J.S.Bach: Cantatas Vol.5/BIS-CD-841 – dir M.Suzuki --------------------------------- -“Worth special mention is tenor Makoto Sakurada, whose roulades in the litany movement of 18 (Gleichewie der Regen und Schnee vom Himmel Faellt) are breathtaking and executed with the utmost precision. “ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ American Record Guide: May/June 1998 --------------------------------- J.S.Bach: Cantatas Vol.7/BIS-CD-881 – dir M.Suzuki --------------------------------- -“Tenor Makoto Sakurada gives us a deliciously rounded, lyrical tone with complete control of the florid material.“ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ American Record Guide: September/October 1998 -“...e sopratutto bellissima la qualita' delle voci corale e solistiche fra le quali spiccano, per qualita' ed eleganza, quale del contraltista Yoshikazu Mera e del tenore Makoto Sakurada. “ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Arte Organistica: N.2 1999 --------------------------------- J.S.Bach: Cantatas Vol.11/BIS-CD-991 – dir M.Suzuki --------------------------------- -“Decisamente piu' apprezzabile il tenore Makoto Sakurada nei suoi interventi: un timbro piacevolissimo, morbido e sicuro sugli acuti (vedi la favolosa aria "Ach, schlage doch bald, selge Stunde..."), sorretta da una tecnica sicura e da una buona musicalità. “ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Fillipo Arata, l'opera: N.140 Maggio 2000 --------------------------------- J.S.Bach: Cantatas Vol.16/BIS-CD-1131 – dir M.Suzuki --------------------------------- -“Stupenda e' pure l'aria succesiva del tenore Makoto Sakurada "Des Hoechsten Gegenwart allein". Qui si resta incantati per come l'artista giapponese riesca a coniugare sapientemente una vocalita' fatta di temperamento vibrante ed appasionante a una tecnica raffinata in cui l'emissione si dipana in un bel timbro brunito nel registro medio e assai luminoso in quello acuto". ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Giuseppe Nalin, CD Classics Aprile 2002
